Google unveiled a major expansion of the Gemini ecosystem at Google I/O 2026, introducing a redesigned Gemini app, the new Gemini Omni creative model, proactive AI agents, and advanced workflow automation tools.
The company says Gemini is rapidly becoming a universal AI assistant designed to help users create, organize, and manage everyday life more intelligently.
Gemini Reaches 900 Million Monthly Users
Google revealed that more than 900 million users are now using the Gemini app every month.
According to Google, much of that growth comes from the rapid pace of feature development over the last year, including:

Google also confirmed that Gemini is now available in:
- More than 230 countries
- Over 70 languages

Gemini Gets a Complete Redesign with “Neural Expressive”
One of the biggest announcements was a full redesign of the Gemini experience.
Google introduced a new design language called “Neural Expressive,” focused on making Gemini feel more dynamic, visual, and interactive.
New Features Include:

- Vibrant visual themes
- Improved typography
- Haptic feedback
- Interactive AI-generated content

Google also announced updates to Gemini Live.
The conversational interface now opens instantly inline within the app and will soon support regional dialects and localized accents.

The company says more dialect options will launch in the coming weeks.
Gemini Omni Brings AI Video Creation Into the Gemini App
Google officially launched Gemini Omni directly inside the Gemini app for paid subscribers.
Gemini Omni allows users to create and edit videos using combinations of:

- Video clips
- Style references
AI Video Editing Features
Google demonstrated how creators can:
- Transform video styles
- Add cinematic effects
- Change camera angles
- Create 360-degree shots
- Preserve realistic movement and physics
In one demo, a musician transformed raw footage into a stylized music teaser entirely within Gemini.
Google described the experience as “the nano banana for video moment,” emphasizing how easy AI video creation has become.

Gemini Daily Brief: AI-Powered Morning Digest
Google also introduced a new proactive AI agent called the Daily Brief.
The feature creates a personalized daily summary using information from:
- Gmail
- Calendar
- Tasks
- Other connected Google apps
The Daily Brief:
- Highlights important events
- Organizes information by topic
- Suggests next actions
- Provides concise summaries optimized for skimming
Google says the feature is designed to become users’ “first stop every morning.”
The Daily Brief is rolling out today to Google AI Plus Pro and Ultra subscribers in the United States.
Gemini Spark Introduces AI Workflow Automation
Another major announcement was Gemini Spark.
Spark allows users to create custom AI-powered workflows and agents capable of completing multi-step tasks automatically.
What Gemini Spark Can Do
Google demonstrated workflows that could:

- Manage checklists
- Coordinate schedules
- Sync tasks across devices
- Request approval before taking actions
The system integrates deeply with Google Workspace applications and can automatically format outputs using Google Docs features.
Google emphasized that Spark is designed to be proactive while still giving users control and approval options.
Trusted testers will gain access this week, with broader beta access planned for Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US.

MCP Integrations and Future Automation
Google previewed upcoming MCP integrations that will allow Gemini Spark to connect with external services and automate even more tasks.
One example showed Spark proactively:

- Automatically avoiding allergens like nuts
Google said multiple partners will integrate with Spark throughout the summer.
Gemini for macOS Gets Advanced Voice Controls
Google also showcased new capabilities for the recently launched Gemini for macOS.
Users can now:

- Long-press the function key
- Dictate complex instructions using voice
In the demo, Gemini analyzed PDFs, invoices, and documents to automatically generate a polished email complete with:

- Allergy details
- Friendly formatting
The system also corrected spoken mistakes automatically using contextual understanding.
Google says these voice features and Spark integrations will arrive on macOS this summer.
