If you find Firefox’s address bar suggestions distracting or cluttered, you’re not alone. By default, Mozilla Firefox shows suggestions from your browsing history, bookmarks, and even search engines as you type. While this can be helpful, some users prefer a cleaner, more private experience.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to remove or customize those suggestions.
🔧 Method 1: Turn Off Address Bar Suggestions in Settings
- Open Firefox.
- Click the menu button (☰) in the top-right corner or Go to Tools if you have Menus at the top
- Select Settings.
- Go to Search
- Uncheck “Show search terms in the address bar on results pages”
- Uncheck “Search engine suggestions”
- Go to the Address Bar section.
- Uncheck the options you want to disable:
- Browsing history
- Bookmarks
- Open tabs
- Shortcuts
- Recent Search
- Suggest search engines to use
- Quick actions
Once unchecked, Firefox will stop showing those suggestions.
🔒 Method 2: Clear Browsing History
To remove all suggestions based on past activity:
- Open Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Scroll to History.
- Click Clear History.
- Select the time range (e.g., “Everything”).
- Check Browsing & download history.
- Click Clear Now.
Firefox gives you full control over what appears in the address bar. Whether you want total privacy or just a cleaner interface, adjusting these settings can make your browsing experience much more comfortable.
